December Knit Knacks!
Some of the kids are really taking to the knitting boards and we have a few pieces already for our Art Auction Afghan. It would be great if all of the kids would make at least one square for the afghan! This is something your family can work on over the holidays. We'll also take "friends and family" squares as well, since an afghan takes many pieces.
This coming month, we'll only have 1 Knit-Knacks meeting. If I have enough adult help at the meeting, I'd like to have a table set up for sock monkeys. Some of the kids are anxious to make these, but we just haven't had enough hands available yet. In order to do the sock monkeys we also need needle and thread! This is one other reason why we haven't been able to start these as of yet. If your child would like to get started on a sock monkey, make sure he or she brings along a needle and some thread.
For those who are liking the knitting looms, I also have a neat little Holiday project they can work on - and most likely finish in one meeting, so make sure those knitting looms come back to the club meeting as well.
Finally, I've got a few kids who really want to get onto the knitting needles. Last meeting, we were able to work a bit on casting on and hopefully we'll take a few of the kids on to the next steps at the next meeting. Again, I can only do this with ample adult help because needle knitting is best taught with a ratio of 1-2 students per adult.
