Great Start for Knit Knacks!
Knit Knacks got off to a great start this week! We discussed the items in our knitting kits and began to work with yarn by helping eachother learn how to finger knit. Parents, there are a few things on which we can use your help:
1. Please label each of the items in your child's kit. A Sharpie Marker or Sticker will work well for most items.
2. Please make sure your child has a bag to hold his or her knitting materials. Some of the kids have knitting needles which are too big for a ziplock bag. Please have the children use a bag which is big enough to hold their supplies without them sticking out.
3. A procedural note... at each club meeting, the children will be expected to sign themselves in on the club roster. When you pick your child up, please make sure that you sign out. Also, if your child will NOT be attending a club meeting or is planning on dropping out of the club, you will need to let me know (please notify me and I will in turn notify the teachers and office). All children who are on our roster are required by the school to stay for a club unless we receive advance notice.
4. Finally, we can NEVER have enough parents help with the club. This week, due to some unforseen circumstances, I didn't have any adult helpers. The kids are excellent when it comes to helping and sharing, but there's still unfortunately not enough of me to go around and assist all of the children as I'd like to be able to do. In particular, I think we are really short on volunteers for the first meeting each month. Any help would be most appreciated!
If you are interested in other materials, books, resources about kids' knitting, look back in our Blog Archives and at the links provided on the right hand side of the blog page.
Next time we'll continue working with our yarn, and the children will start working with knitting looms. We also still have sock monkey materials and will set up a table for the kids who would like to make one.
